All these three are fatal and might lead to coma or death of the person.

Common chronic complications of Diabetes Mellitus are change in size of blood vessels, tissues and organs. Blood vessels start narrowing as a result of hardening and thickening due to increase of blood sugar level. Hence, normal flow of blood and oxygen within it is hampered. It can lead to several cardio vascular diseases. Cerebrovascular diseases are other chronic complications of Diabetes Mellitus. This complication arises due to inadequate oxygen and nutrient supply to brain. A person with Diabetes Mellitus might have Diabetic Retinopathy which eventually leads to blindness. Renal failure can be attributes a chronic complication of this disease.

Most of the complications of diabetes mellitus do not have any early symptom. That is the reason behind higher mortality rate due to these complications. The worst affected parts of complication caused by diabetes mellitus are heart, eyes, brain, kidney and feet. Detecting retinopathy at an early stage can help in its complete cure. If you are having diabetes mellitus, you need to consult an ophthalmologist with in five years of first diagnosis of diabetes to prevent and cure incidences of retinopathy. Screening guidelines for this complication might vary from person to person. If you are having a blurred vision or requiring lenses, you need to consult immediately. After the first consult, you are advised to have eye check up in every one or two years to prevent the incidence of retinopathy.

To prevent and cure complications related to feet due to diabetes mellitus, you can rely upon both self and clinical examination. Along with, during routine medical checkup, you need to convey your physician regarding the problems (if any) related to feet.

Urine screening test is highly efficient in detecting occurrence of renal complications due to diabetes mellitus. To check kidney related complications, doctors generally advise angiotensin receptor blocker and ACE inhibitor. It can reveal the level of protein in urine. As a result, you can take proper measures to control level of sugar and cholesterol in your body to avoid any extreme complication. Statin is a highly recommended drug to address diabetes mellitus complications related to heart. Aspirin is usually recommended for diabetics over forty years of age to curb the heart related complications.
